I have loved teaching all the children this year and I will miss you over the holidays.  I look forward to seeing you on 30th January 2012.

Pet Day

We have had an amazing day today.  There have been lots of different pets brought to school, like cats, dogs, rabbits, lambs, calves, peacocks, parakeets, lizards, and turtles.  Well done to all the children who won ribbons and trophies.  Your pets looked very loved.
The children who did not have a pet to bring, made designer farmer hats.  You are all very creative!
Mrs Christiansen was also very excited to bring her dog to school.  Caleb entered her into the senior dog division and won third prize.  Well done KD!
Thank you to all the parents, grandparents, aunties, uncles, brothers, sisiters and friends who came and supported us.

Fritha's Fun Activities

Last term Fritha bought a book to school full of fun science experiments.  We had a lot of fun doing some of these activities at school.  Thank you Fritha for helping us start the term of with lots of fun learning.
We mixed syrup, dyed water and oil in a glass.  We watched the oil float to the top and the syrup sink to the bottom.  Mrs Christiansen explained this is what is happening with the oil leaking from the Rena.
We made spinners from paper.  We learnt that the air catches under the propellers and it helps the paper to fly just like a helicopter.
We mixed baking soda, glitter, dye and vinegar.  It was a lot of fun watching it all mix together and explode out of the glasses.

Wahoo! Go Anna!

Anna is an amazing highland dancer.  She got a trophy because she got the most points for the 6 and under category in her show.  We are all so proud of you!
When I went up I thought something bad was going to happen.  Then they held out the trophy and I wondered if it was mine. Once I found out it was mine, I was super excited.
The trophy is over 40 years old.

Cross Country and Athletics

On the first day back at school, we will be doing cross country training AND you will be doing some athletic activities.  So do not forget to bring your sports clothes and shoes.  I cannot wait!

Create Your Own Dance

It is important to keep your fitness up during the holidays, especially because we are doing our cross country very soon.  Create your own actions to this song and share it with the class on Tuesday.

Rugby World Cup Sports Day

We had lots of fun learning different sport activities.  Thank you to all the parents who provided transport and helped us on the day.  You are all amazing!

Toilet Paper Clothes

Room 2 were given a challenge to make clothes from toilet paper.  It was a chance for the children to work together as a team and to be creative.  At first it was a bit tricky.  Everyone wanted to make mummies.  In the end, we had some amazing designs.  Well done to Will's team who made clothes that lasted on our runway.

Newspaper Clothes

We had a lot of fun making clothes from newspaper.  It was much easier than toilet paper and we had a few more ideas about how to make clothes.  Georgia, our winning model, looked amazing with her cape flying out behind her.

School Holidays

I cannot believe it is time for the school holidays already.  Have a wonderful holiday and get lots of rest.  I am planning lots of fun things for us to do next term.

Celebration of The Arts

Wow!  You all looked amazing.  I am sure when you grow up you will be famous musicians or actors.  Here are some photo's of you doing, 'We're Going on a Bear Hunt.'

Sunflowers

We have been learning about Vincent Van Gogh's Sunflowers.  We carefully copied his painting.  We noticed he used a lot of paint to create texture. Here is our sunflower art.

Starry Night

We used pastels to draw Vincent Van Gogh's Starry Night.
It was very tricky to colour the whole page in.

What does this picture make you wonder?

This picture makes me wonder lots of strange things.  What do you 'wonder' as you look at this picture.

Biscuit Decorating

We had lots of fun decorating biscuits in a creative way.  There was only one rule.  We were only allowed to use the same amount of lollies as to how old we are.  We discovered we could cut lollies to make more.

A tiger in a car?!

On my way to school today, I saw a tiger in a car!  I didn't know if I should be excited or scared.  What do you wonder when you look at his photo?  Post your comments below.

Black Day

We had a BLACK DAY last Friday to show our support for the All Blacks.  We all wore black and white.  We were super supporters that the All Blacks won!
GO ALL BLACKS!

Welcome Cameron, Holly, Kai, Shania and Tommy

Wow, our class just keeps getting bigger and bigger.

Daffodil Day

We had lots of fun dressing up in yellow to support Daffodil Day.  Everyone looked amazing!  Aaliyah won the prize for being the most 'yellow' person in our class, her recycled costume made from plastic bags showed she really got into the spirit of the day.  Our school raised over $300 for the Cancer Society.  What an incredible effort!

String Art

Thank you Seth for bringing your art book to school.  We chose an activity to help us be creative.  We created calla lily's  by placing string into paint and pulling it through folded paper.  Well done Room 2, they look amazing!

Would you like it to snow everyday?

We answered this question for our writing.  Here are some of our ideas.
I love the snow!  Tomorrow I want to make a snowman because I have never made one before.  On Monday, I wanted school to be open so I could play snow fights with my friends, but it wasn't.  I didn't like that.  In my opinion, it should snow every single day because I have always wanted to make a snowman.  I hope it snows again.  I love snow!
By Anna.

I made a ball from the snow.  I had a ball in my hand and I chased Destiny around the house.  I threw the ball at Destiny.  I want it to snow because I can make snow angels in the snow.  The snow's beautiful.
By Misty.

In the weekend, it was snowing.  I made a snowman.  The body melted, so I got the head and put it on the freezer.  It had daisy eyes, a carrot nose and a liquorice mouth.  I really wanted to eat it.  But, I absolutely hate snow.  It's cold and it went through the hole in my wall.  Then I got cold feet because it melted and made a watery puddle.  I solved my problem by getting up.
By Fritha.

It's snowing!  It's snowing!  It's snow, snow, snowing!  I was tasting it.  It tasted like ice.  I love the snow.  Yesterday we went outside to play on the trampoline.  We slipped and slid.  It was fun.  I went on the slide with Logan.  It had ice on it.  In my opinion, I want it to snow every day because we can do snow fights.  I love the snow because its never snowed in Halcombe before.  Aaahhh!
By Georgia.

I made a snowman.  My big brother threw it at my dog.  I made a snow angel in the snow.  In my opinion, I want it to snow every day because it's cool having snow fights and making snow angels.

What are the sheep thinking about?

Do you have any ideas?  Post a comment and share your ideas.

Observational Drawings

We are learning to do observational drawings.
We have to look very closely and draw what we can see.

It's Snowing!

I cannot believe it snowed in Halcombe!  I hope you have had fun playing in the snow at home.  You are very lucky to have an extra day off school today.  I wonder if all the snow will disappear before tomorrow.  At school, I met a new friend.  His name is Frosty.  We had great fun playing together.  It was very lonely at school without any children to play with, luckily Julia turned up and Frosty got a nice warm cuddle.  Can you guess where Frosty is playing in the photo's?

Silhouette Art

We did this art during our first week back at school.  We found it really tricky blowing ink across the page through a straw.  Can you tell who we are when you look at our silhouettes?
